FAQ's
Why is branding important?
Branding is more than just your logo, it’s the perception the marketplace has of your business’s identity. That identity includes several factors such as your logo, company name, tagline, font styles, typographic systems, color palettes, signage, team bios, website design, packaging design, and in some cases even the most specific details such as the attitude and swagger employees are required to express during customer interactions. Your business without branding is like every person you walked by yesterday and didn’t remember the face of.
What kind of services do you offer?
Mother Puffin Creative provides services that range from the essentials (brand development, logo design, label and packaging design, and copywriting) to more technical services such as UI/UX design, web design, and search engine optimization. Please visit our services page detailing our full list of services
Do we create graphic designs for free?
The short answer is, hell no. Do you work for free? No, you do not. There is a common misconception, maybe let's call it an urban myth, that graphic designers and creatives work for leftover table scraps, lukewarm meals, and malaria free shelter, but not for actual wages or money. Unfortunately for all the prospective creative design clients out there, this rumor is mostly false. Our creative design services may not be free, but they are a great investment for your business.
Pricing hourly, packages, retainer?
Let’s talk about dollar-dollar bill’s y’all. We provide a range of pricing structures as a convenience to our clients, though the vast majority of our work is conducted using flat fee pricing that we quote on a per project basis. We opt for this pricing structure so that pricing is as clear and transparent as possible while providing the flexibility to customize our services around the specific demands of each client. That means if you want a proposal for services or an estimate, you need to reach out. We don’t provide cookie-cutter package pricing or a one-size-fits-all approach to design. We offer ballpark estimates without knowing much about your project in order to provide approximate price points, however, project estimate pricing is subject to change after learning about your project's details. Our project proposals provide clear upfront pricing and are available upon request after learning more about each project. Our retainer and hourly based pricing is for return customers who have previously used our services, though some package add-ons are charged at an hourly rate. For our hourly and retainer pricing we prefer to offer pricing with this structure to previous clients so that rapport and trust has been established between each party. Not to down-sell you, but we prefer you have a sample before diving in head first. Got some other pricing questions? Feel free to ask. We’ve got answers.
Do you charge for revisions?
The vast majority of our creative services offer three included revisions with additional revisions available at an hourly rate. We do not have a limit on edits with each project. For a deeper explanation on edits vs revisions please read this. Our revisions process requires you to participate in a timely manner though we make it convenient for you to do so by providing an e-sign platform for you to approve revisions and request additional changes. At each revision point in the design and development process we will meet (usually virtually) to check in, discuss feedback, and then blaze a new path forward. To learn more visit
Are you able to expedite last minute requests for services?
Usually, yes. But, no not always. If we are able to burn the midnight oil and finagle time at the last minute we charge a rush fee. The rush fee varies and depends on what you need and how fast you need it. Sorry we can’t be more specific in terms of exact cost but the good news is, the rush fee will be a flat fee and you’ll know how much it is before agreeing to pay.
I don’t see my service/industry?
If your request is off the rails let us know about it. Creativity shouldn’t be limited and neither should your requests for our services. We’ve got a lot of creative talent simmering with flavor, just waiting for you to sip. Let’s create a new category and try something new.
How does the design process work?
We’ve got the design process along with all of the other steps you’ll take all mapped out to make things clear. Let’s start by navigating through any obscurity you may currently have regarding what to expect from working with us on a creative project. To remain on-brand we call our client journey the Puffin Process and it clearly describes the journey you’ll go through while working with our agency from start to finish. Check it out here.
How will I be involved in the design process?
As our client and the stakeholder and/or representative of your brand, you will be intricately involved in the creative process. We provide the tools and process for you to inspire us, and to act as our muse while the project evolves through the various design and development phases. Our job is to bring your intentions for your brand to life through our creations. When the project kicks off you will provide input that we will use to begin the process. At each revision point you will provide feedback and direction. This won’t require too much of your time and energy though the more you help us help you, or align us with your specific needs and expectations, the more deeply and creatively we can hone in on what you’re looking for. Specifically, you’ll be involved in five meetings: Project kick-off
1st round of revisions
2nd round of revisions
3rd round of revisions
Project Wrap up You’ll have at minimum one to two hours of home work providing us with input, direction, and feedback.
What is the turnaround time?
Turnaround times vary by project but here are some approximations to wet your appetite for certainty: Brand Design - 2-3 weeks
Logo Design - 1 -2 weeks
Web Design - 4 - 6 weeks
Package Design - 1 - 2 weeks
Rebranding - 2-3 weeks
Copywriting - 1-2 weeks
When it comes to project turnaround we provide a project schedule during the kick off call to make a path of clear expectations leading up to the project deadline. So long as you participate by providing approvals, requests, and feedback in a timely and previously agreed upon manner, and barring an act of god, we never miss a deadline.
How do you send final project files or make final deliverables available?
For starters, neatly and well organized. Nobody I know likes a folder full of sloppy files. Upon project completion we will organize and package all final deliverables in a folder formatted in web and print ready variants or as specifically requested. The files are then sent after the final invoice or remaining balance is paid. If you’re the type to find any excuse in which to celebrate, this is the point in time of your client journey to pop the champagne.
Do I need to sign a contract?
We start work once the contract is signed and the deposit is paid. Unfortunately, contracts must be signed in this litigious day and age. We provide a design services contract to all our clients though we are open to signing a contract provided to us as well. Let's protect each other, you know, from each other : ) There’s no time for tumult, tomfoolery, or ballyhoo.
Will you sign an NDA?
Heck Yes. We will sign your NDA and if you don’t have one our design service contract has protection for both parties so that we don’t gossip about your goods, and you don’t spill the beans about ours. Truth be told, we haven’t many beans to spill.
Who will own the completed files?
You will own the completed works upon the final payment of the project. Mother Puffin Creative will reserve the right to use the completed works we create for you to publicly promote our business to other future clients. We will not reserve the right to broadcast, communicate or share any of your confidential information that you may have shared through the design process.
Who will own the unused designs?
Mother Puffin Creative will retain ownership of any conceptual designs or sketches that are not part of the final deliverables that you chose. In a sense, all of the design trash that you don’t want that we crumple up and throw away is ours. We own our own garbage and all of your design castaways. But, the good news is, garbage isn’t usually very expensive, so if you want a package that includes ownership of our trash that you previously deemed to be worthless garbage, we can include that in a proposal without much trouble.
Can we create designs that include copyrighted material?
We can create almost anything you want us to though we will profusely advise you to not use any material that is copyrighted. Our design services contract communicates that we are not liable for our client’s use of copyrighted material. Spankings? Maybe. But, spankings of the legal variety are not the type this group of creatives prefer to receive.
Can we make your design pop? Add pizzazz? Razzle Dazzle?
The short answer is yes, but please don’t ask this question. It’s the design equivalent of a 37 year old asking his Mommy if Santa Claus is real. Can you make that design element more vivid and add more contrast?” Can you make the font bolder?” Both better alternatives for the love of god, please.
Where do you get your creative inspiration from?
A lot of our inspiration comes from music which may or may not include the occasional 80’s playlist. Our Kiddos. Our three animal babies who aren’t Puffins; Brady, Carl, and Lil’ James. They help, too. Oh, and being really, really high… high up in the mountains. Skiing. Fractals. Sunsets. Fractals during sunsets. Baking half baked. Colorful patterns in nature that connect the dots of random thoughts. Design is everywhere people.
